Harlequin is a Sativa cannabis strain that was developed in the 1990s in Amsterdam. Harlequin’s high levels of CBD and low levels of THC make it one of the most effective strains for pain relief and anxiety management. Harlequin gets its name from its romanticized story about finding love at all costs, even if it ended up killing them both.

It originates from three popular strains: Colombian Gold, a Nepali Indica; Thai; and Swiss landrace strains. The breeders had been trying to create a strain with low THC levels for some time, as high THC levels are associated with disoriented effects and “feeling high.” A prime example of this is its psychoactive cousin, Skunk.

Its effects are best described as clearheaded and uplifting. It is not associated with either sedation or intoxication. In fact, users report feeling more awake and creative after consumption. Medical marijuana patients and recreational users alike enjoy Harlequin’s stress-relieving effects. CBD, the main cannabinoid found in this strain, is an effective analgesic used to treat pain.

It counteracts THC’s habit-forming effects and intensifies the high by amplifying its painkilling properties without triggering an “out of body” sensation or impairing cognition. The adverse effects associated with other strains, including paranoia and dizziness, are negated by the presence of CBD.

Its THC content is around 5%, while the CBD content ranges between 5-15%. Flowering takes between 7-9 weeks, and some consider this strain a direct descendant of the original Haze. The wonderful aroma of this strain is what first attracts consumers to it.

Its ideal to grow this strain indoors to avoid any unwanted pests. Additionally, due to its low THC content and the presence of CBD, it does not require a lot of space.
